What are the characteristics a wife should possess, and who has priority, the wife or the mother, given the wife's refusal to live with the husband's elderly mother and her frequent quarrels with him over his continuous visits to his mother?

The mother holds a great status in Islam; one must honor her and treat her kindly, and her right takes precedence over that of the wife. Allah the Almighty says: "And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And to parents, show good treatment." (Al-Isra: 23). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified that the mother is the person most deserving of good companionship three times, then the father. Ibn Hazm said: "Their right is more obligatory than the right of the husband or the wife."
