The answer

It is not permissible to deposit money in interest-based banks except out of necessity for safekeeping, and when an Islamic bank is not available. In such a case, it should be limited to a current account. If the deposit yields interest, it is obligatory to dispose of it and spend it on charitable causes. It is not permissible to deposit money for interest to pay taxes, due to the generality of the evidence prohibiting usury.
