The answer

Allah, the Exalted, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, established the universe upon fixed laws and linked causes to their effects, for a wisdom He willed. Nothing in existence has an effect except by the command, will, and volition of Allah the Almighty. It is necessary to negate the intrinsic effect of causes and to believe that Allah the Almighty is the One who created them and placed in them their effects and characteristics. Had He willed, He could have stripped them of that, as happened with Abraham (peace be upon him) and the fire, and with Moses and the sea. The Ahl al-Sunnah believe that fire burns, a knife cuts, and water quenches thirst, due to the properties Allah has placed in these things. And whoever denied the effect of causes on their effects has erred. The legal texts indicate the effect of causes on their effects by Allah's command and decree, such as fire burning, and plants growing with water.
