The answer

The zakat threshold for gold is 85 grams. Zakat becomes obligatory for anyone whose share reaches this amount, either by itself or when combined with cash or trade goods. If the threshold is reached, zakat of 2.5% (a quarter of a tenth) is due on it every year. An adult pays it for themselves, or a father pays it from the share of the owner of the threshold if the latter is not an adult. There is no zakat on someone whose share does not reach 85 grams, unless they have something outside the inheritance that completes the threshold.
