"What is the preferred pronunciation in Qalun’s narration when reciting: Yakhsimoon (they dispute), Yahdi (he guides), Ta’addaw (you transgress), and Ni’ma (what a blessing)? Is it ikhtilaas (shortening the vowel sound), or sukoon (applying silence to the letters)?"

The preferred pronunciation in the four mentioned words is iskaan (quiescence). Both iskaan and ikhtilaas (partial vowelization) are valid pronunciations and have been recited by Qalun. The author of Ad-Durar limited it to ikhtilaas, while Ad-Dani mentioned iskaan in At-Taysir and said: "The transmitted text from Qalun is with iskaan." Ibn al-Jazari mentioned that both pronunciations are valid, but the transmitted text from them is with iskaan, and ikhtilaas is only known from the paths of the Maghrebis. Al-Marghani clarified that both pronunciations have been recited by Qalun, with iskaan being preferred, and that reciting with iskaan does not preclude the tashdid (gemination) for fear of the meeting of two quiescent letters.
