What is the interpretation of hearing the whispers of the qareen that insult religion and command evil, and how can one get rid of them while adhering to acts of worship?
The remedy for waswas (whispers/obsessive thoughts) is to completely disregard them, to cease engaging with them, to seek refuge in Allah from them, and to supplicate to Him with earnestness. If one does not pay attention to them, they will disappear after a short while. The Prophetic Sunnah has indicated that waswas comes from Satan, and that its remedy is to seek refuge in Allah and to desist [from the thoughts]. Some scholars have advised believing that waswas is a satanic notion and to fight against it, due to the reward involved in such struggle. It is also mentioned in the Sunnah that a devil named Khanzab comes between a person and their prayer, and is repelled by seeking refuge in Allah from him and spitting lightly to the left three times.
