The question

Is what happens daily upon falling asleep — a feeling of something entering the body, choking, attempting to fly accompanied by body paralysis — a touch from jinn, or merely imaginations? And why do we not see jinn while they see us and control us, and we cannot defend ourselves? And where is the justice in that, especially with reciting the Quran and morning dhikr?

The answer

One must review their faith and belief before reciting the supplications (adhkar) and seeking refuge (ta'awwudhat) mentioned in the fatwas concerning nightmares. Indeed, having ill thoughts about Allah and objecting to His command prevent the benefit of the Qur'an and adhkar. For Allah is not questioned about what He does, and He possesses ultimate wisdom in what He creates and decrees. Jinn do not control us, and their harm is repelled by seeking refuge in Allah and by protection through adhkar and ta'awwudhat, coupled with sound belief and good thoughts about Allah.
