Children, for their part, must strive against their lower selves by not exceeding the bounds of Islamic law, to persevere in acts of obedience, and to obey their parents in what is good. Informing parents of a desire for more freedom should be done with clear reasoning, calm discussion, gentle speech, and by demonstrating it through actions.
