Is it permissible for a wife to give her husband from the zakat of her wealth or to give him charity?

It is permissible for a wife to give her zakat (definition) to her poor husband. This is the view of the Shafi'i school and one of the two narrations from Malik and Ahmad. The proof for this is the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to Zainab, the wife of Ibn Mas'ud, when she wanted to give charity from her jewelry, and Ibn Mas'ud claimed that he and his son were more deserving of it: "Ibn Mas'ud spoke truthfully; your husband and your son are more deserving of your charity."
