Is it permissible to give zakat to needy brothers or sisters who are supported by their father?

There is no objection to giving zakat to brothers and sisters if they are deserving according to one of the categories of zakat recipients mentioned in the verse from Surat At-Tawbah: "Indeed, zakat expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakat] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler - an obligation [imposed] by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise." This is more deserving because it combines charity with kinship. However, if they are young and not in need, and are under the care of their affluent father, then they are not eligible for zakat. It is not permissible to give zakat to parents because their maintenance is obligatory upon their son.
