Do the rulings for one who abandons prayer differ, and is his heart sealed?

Scholars have differed on the ruling concerning one who abandons prayer out of negligence and laziness, holding two views:

The first: That he is a disbeliever with a minor disbelief, which does not expel him from the fold of Islam. This is the view of the majority of jurists.

The second: That he is a disbeliever with a major disbelief. This is the preponderant view, indicated by the apparent meanings of the texts.

As for cursing one who abandons prayer, no authentic hadith has been reported concerning it. However, it is permissible to curse him generally, but it is disliked to curse a specific individual due to the possibility of his repentance.
