The question

Is it a condition to comprehend the meaning of the two testimonies when uttering them in order to embrace Islam, and what is the ruling concerning past marriages and acts of worship if the meaning was not comprehended, and is the formula "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, He is alone without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger" sufficient for entering the religion?

The answer

Do not pay attention to these whispers [waswasah], for you have not left Islam. The default is that you remain in it. Strive to rid yourself of these whispers. Whoever pronounces the two testimonies [Shahadatayn] while understanding their meaning is considered to have entered Islam, and mere pronunciation is sufficient for that.
