The answer

We have previously explained how to attain khushu' (devotional humility) in prayer in earlier fatwas. As for abandoning al-Layl (night prayer), the self goes through periods of activity and languor. The important thing is not to abandon the obligatory duties or fall into prohibitions. We advise returning to Qiyam al-Layl and not giving in, and staying away from sins, transgressions, staying up late, and overeating, which prevent it. As for abandoning Qiyam al-Layl being an indication of Allah's displeasure, this is not necessarily true. Allah may be pleased with a servant's obedience but not assist him in it, knowing that it might lead to a greater corruption, such as conceit and showing off, as explained by Ibn al-Qayyim.
