What should a person do with money acquired from unlawful brokerage, and must it be returned and to whom, bearing in mind that he provided services to the company that resulted in profits for it? And what are the consequences if he ceases dealings and the company is harmed as a result?

Some scholars have stipulated that whoever earns money from a forbidden transaction while ignorant of its prohibition, and then repents, is permitted to benefit from the money they possess, based on the Almighty's saying: ﴿So whoever receives an admonition from his Lord and desists, he may have what has passed, and his affair is to Allah.﴾ He must abandon the forbidden act, because one of the conditions for sincere repentance is to cease the forbidden act.
