The answer

Musical ringtones and song melodies are forbidden, whether pre-installed or added by the user. This is due to the general evidence prohibiting music, such as the : "There will be people from my Ummah who will consider unlawful sexual intercourse, silk, alcohol, and musical instruments to be lawful." It is also due to evidence prohibiting or disliking the sound of bells, such as the hadith: "Bells are the flutes of Satan," and the statement of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, concerning a slave girl wearing bells: "Angels do not enter a house in which there is a bell." The reason angels shun bells is their sound, which resembles the flutes of Satan. Therefore, a Muslim must change musical ringtones to regular tones.
