What is the ruling on quickly descending for bowing (rukūʿ) and prostration (sujūd) without rushing through the prayer itself or the glorification (tasbīḥ)?
Tranquility (طمأنينة) is a prerequisite for bowing (ruku'), prostration (sujud), standing erect after bowing (i'tidal), and sitting between prostrations. However, transitioning into ruku', sujud, or standing can be done in any manner, and the speed or slowness does not affect the validity of the prayer. Nevertheless, one must not intend by their lowering and raising anything other than the pillar to which they are transitioning. It is important to note that if excessive speed in descending (for ruku' or sujud) leads to missing the transitional takbeers and tasmee' (saying "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah") during the transition, then intentionally doing so invalidates the prayer according to the Hanbalis. If done out of forgetfulness, it necessitates the prostrations of forgetfulness (sujud as-sahw).
