What is meant by keeping away from women during menstruation in the Qur’an, and is it permissible to kiss and fondle one’s wife during menstruation, and what is the ruling on one who has intercourse with his wife, thinking she has purified herself, then it becomes clear that there are remnants of menstrual blood?

The prohibition against approaching and isolating women during menstruation refers to refraining from sexual intercourse with them. Scholars have differed on what is permissible for a man to enjoy with his menstruating wife, after agreeing on the prohibition of vaginal intercourse. The preponderant opinion is that what is forbidden is only intercourse in the vagina, based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "Do everything except intercourse," and based on the scholars' statement that direct contact with a menstruating woman while she is wearing an izar (lower garment) is a precaution and a preventative measure against temptation.
