What is the ruling on cutting down a palm tree endowed to the mosque (muḥabbasa li-l-jāmiʿ) and discarding it because it obstructs vehicle movement, and is it permissible to pay its value to the mosque?

Your maternal uncle should not remove or dispose of the endowment (waqf) palm tree except with the permission of the waqf administrator (nazir). He must plant a replacement palm tree that is no less [in value or quality] than it, and he should not pay its value so that it does not become a sale of the endowed property. Some scholars have permitted paying the value. Whoever demolishes an endowed property must restore it to its original condition. If planting a similar replacement is not possible, he is obligated to pay its value to the waqf administrator.
