Is it permissible to greet women by shaking hands if the woman places her shayla or hijab on her hand to shake hands with a man?

It is not permissible for a man to shake hands with a woman who is a stranger to him, even if the handshake is from behind a barrier. This is in emulation of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, whose hand never touched the hand of a strange woman, and who said: "Indeed, I do not shake hands with women. My word to one woman is like my word to a hundred women."
