What is the ruling on a marriage contract documented in an Arab country to a Christian woman in the Real Estate Registry, Department of Foreign Marriages, and is another new procedure required if the wife later converts to Islam?

For the validity of a marriage contract with a Muslim woman or a Kitabiyyah (woman of the People of the Book), the presence of a guardian (wali), witnesses, offer (ijab), and acceptance (qabul) is stipulated. The guardian of a Kitabiyyah is her father or one of her relatives from her own religion. If the contract is concluded directly by the Kitabiyyah woman's guardian or his agent, the contract is valid. However, if it is concluded without a guardian, it is null and void according to Sharia. It can be rectified by performing a new contract in the presence of her guardian or his agent. If she has no guardian, the Muslim judge (Qadi) marries her off. If the woman embraces Islam after a valid Sharia contract, there is no need to renew the contract.
