Does my sister's refusal to reconcile with me after a quarrel make my deeds unacceptable?

If the animosity is not due to you, and you have sought to mend relations but she has rebuffed you, then there is no blame upon you. You should continue to maintain ties and show kindness, and ask Allah to reconcile between you. The Hadith of Abu Hurayrah indicates that animosity prevents forgiveness, and that whoever reconciles with his brother but is not accepted, the one who sought reconciliation will be forgiven. It is not permissible for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three [days], and the better of the two is the one who initiates the greeting of peace (salam). Scholars have differed on whether giving the greeting of peace (salam) breaks the abandonment (hajr). Al-Shafi'i and Malik held that it breaks the abandonment and lifts the sin, while Ahmad and Malik, in another narration, were of the view that if the one causing harm does not [reciprocate], the greeting of peace does not break the abandonment. The preponderant view is that your greeting of peace and communication with your sister lifts from you the sin of abandonment and severance.
