What is the ruling on wearing trousers, what is the Islamic dress for swimming, and is it permissible to wear a swimsuit?

A Muslim must cover their 'awrah (private parts). For a man, the 'awrah is from the navel to the knee. For a woman, her entire body is 'awrah. The permissible attire for swimming for a man is that which covers his 'awrah. As for a woman, it is not permissible for her to swim in front of men. If she swims in front of women, she must cover what is between her navel and her knee. As for a swimsuit (maillot), it is not permissible to wear it because it usually reveals the 'awrah.
