The answer

A man is permitted to marry without his parents' consent, but it is better and more blessed to seek their permission to achieve harmony. The young man should convince his mother of the necessity of marriage, and if she insists on refusing, there is no sin upon him in marrying a righteous girl. Parents should assist their children in marriage and facilitate it. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen was asked about a son marrying despite his father's refusal, and he advised the father not to prevent his son from marrying a woman of good character and religious commitment except for a legitimate reason. He advised the son that if he could desist from marrying her to please his father, he should do so; otherwise, there is no sin upon him in marrying her, as his father might be convinced after the marriage.
