What are the reasons for the revelation of Surat al-Baqarah?

Not every surah has known specific reasons for its revelation. Some parts of the Qur’an were revealed for a stated reason, while others were revealed without a stated reason. The reason for revelation might be unknown to many Companions, or they might differ regarding it. Knowledge of the reasons for revelation was attained by the Companions through contextual clues. One might mention a reason, and another might mention a different one. It is also possible that a verse was revealed twice. Surah Al-Baqarah continued to be revealed throughout the the Medinan period, and it is impossible to enumerate all its reasons for revelation.
