How old was Adam?

Adam's age, peace be upon him, was one thousand years. Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi narrated, and it was authenticated by them, from Abu Hurayrah that when Allah Almighty created Adam, He stroked his back and brought forth his progeny from it. He saw among them a man who was radiant, and he said, "O my Lord, who is this?" He said, "This is your son David." He said, "O my Lord, how old is he?" He said, "Sixty years." He said, "My Lord, increase his lifespan." He said, "No, unless I increase it from your lifespan." Adam's age was one thousand years, so He increased it by forty years. When Adam was on his deathbed, he said, "Indeed, forty years remain of my life." It was said, "You have gifted them to your son David." He said, "I did not do so." Then Allah Almighty presented the writing to him, and the angels bore witness against him.
