Is it permissible to force a female child not to shake hands with men?
It is permissible for a young girl to shake hands with men as long as she is too young to be desired, because there is no fear of temptation. This is the sounder opinion among the Shafi'is. There is no dispute regarding the prohibition of touching or shaking hands with minors with lust, whether the gender is the same or different, and whether they have reached the age of desire or not. If the girl reaches the age of desire, her ruling regarding touching and shaking hands becomes the same as that of adults. Therefore, her guardian must prevent her from shaking hands and from anything that might lead to temptation. However, if the girl is young and not desired, and the handshake is not with lust, then there is no harm in it. But if the guardian sees an educational benefit in preventing her, there is no harm in that, while emphasizing gentleness and a wise approach in upbringing.
