How is a vowed sacrifice of a sheep distributed, and what are the rulings on vows in Islam?

Whoever vows an act of obedience to Allah must fulfill their vow, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him." And whoever vows to slaughter an animal for Allah, must fulfill their vow and distribute it to the poor. However, if the vow is an act of disobedience - such as offering a sacrifice to other than Allah - it is not permissible to fulfill it; for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "And whoever vows to disobey Him, let him not disobey Him."
