What is the ruling on saying "So-and-so is in the care of Allah" for the deceased?

It is permissible to say: "The deceased is in the protection of Allah" (al-mayyit fi dhimmatillah), because 'dhimmah' means covenant, security, and preservation. This is like supplicating for him, that Allah may protect him, and it is not a definitive statement about his condition. It has been reported in the Hadith (definition) that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, supplicated for a deceased Muslim saying: «O Allah, indeed so-and-so, son of so-and-so, is in Your protection (dhimmah) and in the rope of Your vicinity (habl jiwarik)». This phrase is not restricted to the deceased; for whoever prays Fajr is in the protection of Allah.
