The answer

The sinner must appreciate Allah's concealment of his sins and repent to Him, and not be deluded by it. Indeed, Allah described His beloved ones as those who hasten to good deeds and fear that their actions may not be accepted. The sinner's persistence in sins, despite Allah's concealment, may be a gradual enticement (istidraj). And the unveiling of sins may not be the only punishment; there are also inner punishments such as hardness of heart and heedlessness. Allah may conceal a sinner's sins for reasons, including His forgiveness and clemency, His desire for His servants to repent, or because the sin does not amount to disbelief, or because there are good deeds that efface evil ones. The believer is not deluded by Allah's clemency, nor does he despair of His mercy. He remains fearful of His punishment, yet hopeful for His forgiveness.
