What is the ruling on accumulating saliva in the mouth during prayer due to foul breath or similar reasons?

The prayer is not invalidated by gathering saliva and swallowing it, nor by swallowing food particles stuck between the teeth that are carried by the saliva. However, one should not engage in gathering saliva during prayer, as it may distract the worshiper from their prayer and disrupt their devotion. The Sunnah indicates the reprehensibility of anything that distracts the worshiper from their prayer.
