Is the wife considered sinful for not showing affection to her husband and sometimes asking him to refrain from intimacy, due to her feeling repulsed by him because he is unemployed, does not pray, and is not religious, despite her fulfilling her marital duties and spending on the home and children?

Marital problems are often due to the disobedience of one or both spouses, and their rectification is achieved through obedience to Allah. A husband who does not pray commits a grave sin, and some scholars have even deemed him an apostate.

The wife is advised to first mend her relationship with Allah through sincere repentance, and then strive to reform her husband. If he repents and becomes righteous, then all praise is due to Allah. Otherwise, there is no good in remaining with him.

Among the ways to reform him are to show affection and avoid displaying aversion, and to answer him if he calls her to his bed, even if she is tired, as long as she is not harmed by it.

Even if the majority of scholars do not consider one who abandons prayer to be an apostate, he still has the rights of a husband over his wife, including affection and obedience in what is good. Divorce should be avoided as much as possible. If the wife is harmed by her husband's failure to provide for her, she can bring the matter before the Sharia courts to seek separation.
