Is there any evidence that reciting Surat Ya-Sin over a dying person eases the departure of the soul, as was mentioned in the answer to question number (21870)?

The majority of scholars hold the view that it is recommended to recite Surat Ya-Sin for a dying person. They base this on the hadith: "Recite Ya-Sin over your deceased." However, this hadith is weak; it has been declared weak by An-Nawawi, Ibn Al-Arabi, Al-Albani, and others.

Among the evidence cited is that Ghudhayf ibn Al-Harith Ath-Thumali asked the elders to recite Surat Ya-Sin when his agony intensified. The elders replied: "If it is recited for the deceased, their suffering is lightened by it." Al-Hafiz deemed its isnad (chain of narration) to be good (hasan).

Shaykh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah chose the opinion that its recitation is recommended for the dying person.

Imam Malik, however, deemed it disliked (makruh) to recite it for the dying person due to the weakness of the hadith and because it is not a common practice among people.

Shaykh Ibn Baz stated that singling out Surat Ya-Sin for the dying person has no basis due to the weakness of the hadith, but reciting the Quran in general for a sick person is a good act.

As for Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen, he said that reciting Ya-Sin for the dying person is a Sunnah according to many scholars, but the hadith they relied on is weak. So, for those who authenticate it, its recitation is a Sunnah, and for those who deem it weak, it is not a Sunnah.
