The question

Does intentionally producing an audible sound from the mouth during exhalation invalidate the prayer, knowing that the sound is similar to the letter "Hāʼ" if it continues for a period? And does intentionally sighing with a single letter (Fāʼ) invalidate the prayer?

The answer

Exhaling breath from the mouth is considered 'blowing' (nafkh). Scholars have differed regarding its ruling. Some have invalidated the prayer if two letters are produced by it, while others have not invalidated it, considering that it is not speech. 'Uffing' (ta'affuf) shares the same ruling as blowing. It is authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said "Uff, uff" in his prayer, as mentioned in the Hadith of Abdullah ibn Amr regarding the Eclipse Prayer. A group of scholars has used this Hadith as evidence that prayer is not invalidated by 'uffing' or blowing, even if two letters are produced, because it is not considered speech.
