What is the ruling on disbelieving the words of a soothsayer, and is he considered a claimant to knowledge of the unseen or an infidel?
The claim of a soothsayer (kahin) to know the unseen must be denied, for Allah Almighty says: "Say: None in the heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allah." As for what the soothsayer may claim to be true, it is a word he snatches from the devils and adds 99 lies to it. Therefore, his falsehood in a specific report is highly probable. And whoever calls him a liar based on this strong probability or on his claim to know the unseen, there is no blame upon him.
