Usury is one of the gravest major sins. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, encouraged marriage to a person of religious commitment. Therefore, the questioner is not advised to marry this man unless he genuinely repents from usury. The conditions of repentance are: abandoning the sin, regretting it, and intending never to return to it. He must return only the principal amount borrowed to the bank. It is not permissible to repay the usurious interest unless he is compelled to do so.
