What is meant by delaying prayer, and is performing it an hour after the Adhan considered a delay? What is the meaning of the two verses, "So woe to those who pray those who are heedless of their prayer," and do they refer to delaying within the prescribed time or delaying until after its expiry?

The prohibited delay of prayer is delaying it beyond its chosen time without a legitimate excuse according to Islamic law. However, delaying it so that it still falls within the chosen time carries no sin. Performing the Dhuhr prayer an hour after the Adhan (definition) is permissible, though it is better to perform it promptly. The interpretation of the two verses (Woe to those who pray Those who are heedless of their prayer) includes hypocrites who do not pray in private, or who delay prayer entirely beyond its time, or consistently delay it from the beginning of its time, or do not perform it with its pillars and conditions, or lack devotion in it. It also includes those who delay prayer until the very end of its time, almost letting it expire, pecking at it like a crow without devotion.
