What is the fate of a child born of adultery after the repentance and marriage of the parents, especially concerning his lineage and place of residence, and is it permissible for him to be attributed to his father?

If the fornicator wishes to marry the woman with whom he fornicated, both of them must repent. If she is pregnant, the marriage contract is not valid until she gives birth and becomes ritually pure. The child born of fornication is attributed, according to Islamic law, to his mother and her family. Attributing him to his "father from fornication" is prohibited by the majority of scholars, in contrast to Ishaq, Urwah, Sulayman, and Abu Hanifa. If it is impossible to attribute the child to his mother, a name should be chosen for him that suits his situation, and he should not be attributed to a specific family, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever claims to be the son of someone other than his father – while he knows he is not his father – Paradise is forbidden for him." The mother is obligated to care for and raise the child. His true situation should be revealed to him using circumlocution to prevent people from discovering the reality of his lineage. Whoever has been afflicted by fornication must repent and increase in good deeds.
