Is it obligatory for a Muslim to investigate the circumstances of the recipient of charity, and is one rewarded if they unknowingly give charity to a transgressor?

Charity is divided into obligatory (Zakat) and non-obligatory (voluntary charity). Obligatory charity must be given to those who are deserving, with careful verification. It is permissible to give it to a Muslim who is a transgressor, provided their transgression does not take them out of the fold of Islam, and provided they are deserving and will not use it to support their transgression. As for voluntary charity, it is given to the closest in kinship among the poor and needy first, then to others. It is permissible to give it to anyone, even if they are non-Muslim. It is permissible to give charity to a wine drinker, as long as it is not known that they will use it to buy wine; otherwise, that would be considered cooperation in sin. The reward is obtained by the intention to give charity.
