What is humanity's need for prophets?

The prophets are messengers of Allah who convey His commands, give glad tidings, and warn. Were it not for them, intellects would not have known the details of the divine laws nor would they have been guided. People's need for the messengers surpasses their need for the sun and food, for they are intermediaries between Allah and His creation, guiding people and bringing them out of darkness into light. Humanity needs the message to recognize its Creator, to nourish its soul with the correct religion, to follow sound human nature (fitra), to attain Allah's pleasure, to protect itself from its enemies, and to achieve justice and tranquility.
