A divorced woman is not forbidden to her husband's sons, but rather she is forbidden to all of his descendants, because she was their father's wife, regardless of whether he consummated the marriage with her or not, due to the Almighty's saying: "And do not marry those [women] whom your fathers married."

Similarly, a son's wife is forbidden to his fathers and grandfathers, even if the son did not consummate the marriage with her, due to the Almighty's saying: "and the wives of your sons who are from your [own] loins." This is a matter of consensus among scholars.
