Is it permissible to supplicate and glorify Allah with poetry during prayer?
The first and best approach for a worshiper is to supplicate in their prayer with what is found in the Quran and , and with prose that follows their pattern, free from artificiality and transgression. As for supplicating with poetic verse, it deviates from the original principle; in fact, some jurists' statements may imply the invalidity of prayer with it, as they likened it to the speech of people or the recitation of poetry. However, Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah permits it, citing the action of Ibn al-Qayyim, who used to supplicate with two lines of poetry during prostration. Nevertheless, the safer and more blameless course is to avoid this and to supplicate with the supplications from the Quran and Sunnah, and what is similar in meaning.
