The answer

A husband has the right to prevent his wife from leaving the house, and this is for her protection. It is unlawful for her to go out without his permission, except in cases of necessity. This ruling does not change with the variation of time and place; rather, its emphasis increases in times and places where corruption is widespread, provided that the husband does not harm his wife, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm." Spouses should not be obstinate in demanding their rights, and the governing principle in this regard is that one should not desire for his brother except what he desires for himself.
