The answer

The amount that reaches the nisab (minimum threshold) becomes subject to zakat when a full year passes while it is in one's possession. Any increase resulting from its profits is to be zakated along with it. However, if the increase comes from another source of wealth (such as an inheritance or property income), its zakat is not obligatory along with the first nisab. Rather, it is to be zakated when a full year passes from the day it was acquired, even if it is less than a nisab. It is permissible to combine it with the first nisab and pay zakat on both when its year is complete.
