What is the son’s duty towards his wealthy mother who refuses to help him with the costs of marriage and study, and what is her duty towards him?

It is obligatory upon the child to honor his mother and treat her kindly. It is not permissible to abandon her, no matter what her condition, for her disobedience is one of the greatest sins. The mother is not obligated to financially support her earning child. However, some scholars have made it obligatory for her to marry off her needy, incapable child if the father is absent. The child is advised to repent from abandoning his mother and to honor her, and the mother is advised to help her child with marriage and to spend on him.
