Did God create humans or angels first, and if He created angels first, how did they know that humans would cause mischief on earth, as stated in Surat Al-Baqarah, verse 30?

The creation of angels preceded the creation of Adam (peace be upon him). This is indicated by Allah Almighty informing the angels of His creation of Adam and commanding them to prostrate to him, and His dialogue with them before His creation, as in His saying: "When your Lord said to the angels, 'Indeed, I am going to create a human being from clay. So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration.'" (Saad/38:71-72), and His saying: "And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, 'Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successor.' They said, 'Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?' Allah said, 'Indeed, I know that which you do not know.'" (Al-Baqarah/2:30).

Scholars differed on how the angels knew that the new successor would cause corruption on earth and shed blood, holding several opinions: 1. Allah Almighty informed them of that. 2. They deduced it from the conditions of those who preceded Adam on earth, such as the jinn. 3. They understood it from human nature. 4. They understood from the meaning of "successor" that it refers to one who arbitrates between people in disputes that arise between them, and this necessitates the occurrence of injustices.

These opinions are deductions not based on explicit texts. The purpose of the story is to convey a lesson and admonition, and to highlight Allah's honoring of mankind. Ignorance of its details does not cause harm. The angels' question was an inquiry and an exploration for wisdom, not an objection. Allah Almighty answered them: "Indeed, I know that which you do not know," meaning that in the creation of Adam and his offspring there is a predominant benefit represented by the prophets, messengers, the truthful, martyrs, the righteous, and other good people.
