Was the Messenger, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, without sin, as some Muslims believe, or is he not, because he is human, and what is the correct view on this according to the Qur’an and Sunnah?

The Ummah has agreed that prophets are infallible in conveying the message and the religion, and that they do not conceal anything that Allah has revealed to them. They are also infallible from committing major sins, but not minor ones. Before prophethood, it is permissible for them to commit some minor sins, but after prophethood, the correct view is that they may commit some minor sins, but they are not condoned for them. As for unintentional errors, they occur in worldly matters because they are human beings, as in the incident of palm pollination. As for matters of religion, they may err by doing what is less preferable when exercising ijtihad (independent reasoning) if they do not have a clear religious text, as happened in the story of the captives of Badr. However, they do not err in conveying revelation or in fundamental religious matters.
