The answer

It is permissible for a woman to wipe over the front part of her head and then complete the wiping over her khimar (head covering), whether out of necessity or otherwise, based on Muslim's narration from Bilal that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, wiped over his khuffayn (leather socks) and his khimar. What is established for men is also established for women, unless there is evidence to the contrary. Furthermore, Umm Salamah used to wipe over her khimar. If a woman is unable to wipe over her head due to illness or similar reasons, she may wipe over her khimar without wiping any part of her head. This is the view of the Shafi'is and a group of scholars.
