What is the ruling on divorcing a woman in her postpartum period (nifas) with three separate pronouncements in one hour, and does this divorce take effect according to the methodology of Ibn Taymiyyah?

The fatwa (definition) we adopt is that the wife is irrevocably divorced from her husband with a major, irreversible divorce (baynunah kubra). However, according to the opinion of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, divorce does not occur during menstruation or postpartum bleeding (nifas (definition)), because the texts and fundamental principles dictate otherwise. It is permissible to act upon the opinion of some scholars in matters of scholarly disagreement, as long as the person is confident in their opinion and not merely following their desires.
