What is your advice to a committed wife who discovered after marriage that her husband is negligent in his religious duties, even prayer, and that he has not prayed for three years, and that she too has been negligent with him, despite their knowledge of the ruling on one who abandons prayer?

One who abandons prayer is not considered committed [to Islam], as he has forsaken the pillar of the religion. His good character does not benefit him without religion. He should be advised to repent and make up for the duties he has missed, and prayers should be made for his righteousness. If the wife is negligent, she should also repent.

The wife should remain with him in affection and good companionship if he repents and she directs his character towards goodness and obedience through advice, kindness, and supplication.

If he rejects advice and maintaining prayer after that, she should seek a divorce, unless she fears severe harm.
