The two most important descriptions for choosing a suitor are character and religiosity, for they guarantee good companionship and kind treatment. A person of religiosity and good character will be a blessing to the woman and her offspring. One must avoid those who are negligent in prayer and those who drink alcohol. As for those who abandon prayer, they are disbelievers, and believing women are not permissible for them. It is preferable for the suitor to be of noble lineage, but the priority is for character and religiosity.
